Melissa Bruglemans-LaBelle

Artist Biography

Melissa is a native Albertan and from the time she could hold a pencil she was creating art. Melissa received her first BFA from Augustana University College for Studio Art in 2002 and in 2006 she had received a second BFA from Alberta Collage of Art and Design.

The majority of Melissa’s works focuses on painting, drawing and mixed media which have been on display both nationally and internationally. Her work is characterized as being colorful and thoughtful towards emotion and feeling of movement. Melissa’s passion for painting with coffee is allowing her to tap into the warmth and fluidity of the medium along with the subject.

Melissa enjoys volunteering in fundraising events and community projects. Her most recent achievements include donating a painting on permanent display in Italy at the Imago Mundi Luciano Benton Collection: Oh West Canada Collection. Presently, she is raising money by selling 100 Limited Edition Prints of a coffee painting she created of the late Gord Downie. A portion of the proceeds from each print will be donated to the Gord Downie Fund for Brain Cancer Research (Sunnybrook Foundation).

Melissa is co-founder of Studio 52 an art project which was launched on January 1st, 2018. She will be creating one piece of artwork a week for the next 52 weeks where upon completion will be put on display in a group gallery setting.

She currently lives in Airdrie as a wife and mother of two young, very active boys while running a small art business named Touch of Paint Advertising. Here she creates artwork for her clients which are used for both commercial and residential purposes. These works mostly focus on Window Painting, Wall Murals, Chalk Boards/Signs and other Fine art pieces.
